We
start our day on route to Cawdor Castle with a visit to the
Clava Cairns
(Balnuaran of Clava)
The two outer cairns have entrance passages, the chamber of the
central one is enclosed
Each cairn is surrounded by a ring of standing stones

And then onto
Cawdor Castle
Romantically linked by Shakespeare with Macbeth.
A superb fairy-tale Castle, and just what every visitor is
looking for
Scottish history that you can touch and see and sense for

Cawdor Castle is not another cold monument, but a splendid house
and the home of the Cawdor family to this day.
The castle dates from the late 14th century and was built as a
private fortress by the Thanes of Cawdor
The ancient medieval tower was built around the legendary
holly-tree

through Inverness and along the banks of the River Ness and Loch

The visitor centre
has a wide
and varied selection of gifts and refreshments and an
audio-visual
presentation which cannot be missed
Stunning views of Loch Ness and the Castle can be obtained from
the veranda
The pathway descends to the castle so please allow time to get
back to the visitor centre for a scenic drive back to the
Ship
Returning to you 45 minutes before your boarding time
